Socio-Cultural Approach to Technology Integration

The question I am often faced with is how to encourage faculty to integrate technology into their teaching. There are various reasons why people can be resistant or hesitant to adopt new technologies: previous negative experience, lower technical skills, or lack of time. One of the common reasons is lower self-efficacy when it comes to technology, when people believe that the task is too difficult for them to successfully master, and they are afraid of failure. Intro

I am starting this blog to share my ideas and experiences in a dual capacity:  as an instructional designer who helps faculty navigate in the world of digital (mostly hybrid) learning and as an online instructor who teaches online courses and helps students navigate and succeed in the same digital world.

Having both perspectives helps me in both jobs tremendously, and hopefully my musings in this blog will be of use to both hybrid and online instructors and to those who support their efforts. It’s a learning experience for me as well.
